What is CDMA?
   CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is a channel access method utilized by various radio communication technologies. The channel access method uses a channel frequency of 1.25MHz. One of the known as a third generation (3G) global wireless communications system is the CDMA 2000 1x EVDO The CDMA 2000 1x EVDO technology has the following basic advantage.  
  •     Best voice quality
  •     Supports high speed internet access of up to 2.4MBps using EVDO

The Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) implementes CDMA 2000 1x EVDO technology with the following services mainly:

  • 1x Data Only.
  • EVDO.
  • Voice and 1x Data.
  • Voice Only.
  • FAX.
  • GOTA.
   CDMA1x or EVDO?
   CDMA 1x- provides Internet facility with a peak speed of 153.6Kbps and an average speed ranging from 70 Kbps to 80Kbps. To subscribe for this service, customers are required to fulfill all eligible documents and collect an R-UIM (SIM card) or using their own fixed terminal configured for 1x data service only from ETC’s sells offices/front desks/.

   CDMA EVDO- provides a broadband connection having an Internet connection speed of peak 2.4 Mbps and an average speed ranging from 300 Kbps to 700Kbps.
